The USPTO recently implemented additional security measures that require identify verification for access to Patent Center, their patent application viewing and filing system. The recent changes impact Patent Center access for guests and unregistered users, eliminating their ability to view published patent applications and related records.
If you need a viable alternative to view published patent records, we suggest using the file wrapper search on the USPTO’s Open Data Portal (link). The file wrapper search is free to use, simple to navigate, and it provides similar access to what one would see in Patent Center.
If access to Patent Center is still required, there are two ways to verify your identity and gain access briefly described below, noting the first option requires notarization and the second option requires a video call:
- Form PTO-2042a – Complete, notarize, and mail the form to the USPTO.
- ID.me Verification – Verify your identity online. For non-U.S. passport holders, guidance is available here: Verifying with a non-U.S. passport.
Please visit the Open Data Portal for your needs and do not hesitate to reach out to your Xsensus team at any time if you have questions or need assistance.
